In any city, in any country, go to any beat down hotel or roadside rest house you can get yourself to. When you reach the front desk, ask for the room number of someone who calls herself "The Holder of Vanity." The person behind the desk will whistle and hand you a card with a room number on one side and a key taped to the other.

When you start to go up the stairs, you should hear the moans and thrashing of passion surround you, but you must not pay attention to them, lest you suffer something that would horrify even the souls in the deepest pits of hell. If the moaning ever stops, knock on the nearest wall and whisper, "Everyone is doing it; don't stop on my account." If the moaning does not resume, pray that you suffer a quick death, though that is quite unlikely.

When you finally reach the room that you are searching for, knock four times and say, "I have come for you." A male voice will answer you. Reply in a loud voice "The woman is what I desire!" If the man does not respond, open the door to the right, throw the key in, and quickly head back to the front desk. If he tells you to come in, open the door with the key.

Instead of finding a man, you will find a woman chained to a crucifix, whose body is be of a heavenly, enchanting beauty, but whose face is the most hideous that any mortal has ever seen. She will ask you if you have come to free her. Look at her straight in the face and do not answer her, or she will make you her slave for all eternity.

The thing you can safely do is ask her "What makes them vain?" The woman will laugh a very shrill laugh that will shake the very foundations of your mind. If you keep your sanity after that, the woman will slowly tell the you about the things that keep their beauty for themselves, and how their vanity will end up destroying the beauty they hold so dear.

When she finishes speaking, pick up the rose on the bed without breaking your gaze away from the woman. As soon as you grab the rose, quickly close your eyes as the room fills with an incomprehensible force. When you open your eyes, the rose will be dead and wilted, its thorns still embedded in your palm.

Its stem is Object 214 of 538. The beauty of the world will now crumble and show its true nature

Holder of Oblivion

In any city, in any country, go to any mental institution or halfway house in you can get yourself to. When you reach the front desk, ask to visit someone who calls himself "The Holder of Oblivion." If the attendant stares at you and swallows audibly, follow him to a room deep within the building, far deeper than you thought possible. The attendant will open the door and give you a fearful look. If you are brave, enter the room. If you are craven, flee now.

Inside the room, there is only a chair. Sit down in it. If at any time you begin to feel fear, get up and leave. You are still free to escape. If you choose to stay, you must sit and wait until the lights in the room flicker. Do not stand. Do not get up. If you are not sitting down then the lights flicker, then you will plummet into the void between worlds, a meal for its grotesque denizens.

When the lights flicker, you must shut your eyes immediately. Gazing upon the void will destroy your mind. Only when you hear a man clear his throat may you open your eyes. You will be in a dark dungeon, bound to the chair by a web of ebon chains. Surrounding you will be heads impaled upon blood-soaked pikes, and standing before you will be a man wearing an executioner's uniform. Stare him in the eyes; do not move your gaze and do not show even the slightest tinge of fear, for if you do, he will add your head to his collection.

The only thing you may speak without being beheaded is the question, "What will they bring?" The executioner will laugh an inhuman laugh, and then the impaled heads will begin to speak. They will speak of horrors, of executions, of their individual ends, but you must not move your gaze from the executioner, or you too will be speaking of your death. Eventually, he will speak of his own end, of what they brought to him. When he finishes, he will remove his cowl, revealing a skeleton's face. With a cackle, he will wave his hands, and the world will plunge into darkness.

When the light returns, you will be sitting peacefully in the lobby of the institution. In your lap will be the executioner's cowl.

That cowl is Object 34 out of 2583. You have seen what they bring, will you stop them?

Holder of Silence

In any city, in any country, go to any mental institution or halfway house you can get yourself to. When you reach the front desk, ask to visit someone who calls himself "The Holder of Silence". The worker will look up at you with an expression of calm understanding, but will say nothing before returning to his work. Any attempt to speak to him afterward will result in the same reaction. At this point, sit and wait. The more you let your mind wander, the more you begin to realize that the loud chatter of the people in the lobby is slowly dying away. Eventually, even background noises like the hum of the air conditioning and the buzz of fluorescent lights begin to fade into nothing. When the lobby is completely and utterly silent, approach the worker once more. If and when he looks up at you, nod. He will then nod back and beckon for you to follow him.

The hall you will be led down is unnaturally silent, so much so that it begins to hurt your ears. Every thought you make, every mental notation seems like a scream. Any and every move you make emits no sound. What you will encounter depends on who you are, as this holder is far more adaptive and subtle than most. Some people claim seeing their most prized possessions being stolen by their greatest enemies. Others report witnessing their dearest family members being devoured by foul demons of unimaginable horror. No matter what you face, keep your breath quiet and shallow. Do not say anything. If you make but the slightest noise, you will instantly find yourself outside the institution, and it will be replaced by a drug store. Please note that if this does happen, do not under any circumstances enter the drug store.

After exactly three hours of walking through the silent halls, you will stop at a door of pure silver. The worker will nod and silently walk away. At first, the door will seem locked. Do not knock on the door. Do not call out. The holder is most intrigued at this point, and is deciding what should become of you. When it makes its decision, the door will open. If the door creaks, scream as loudly as you can. It does not matter what you say, if anything at all, so long as you make the most deafening sound you can muster. If you succeed, you will find yourself on the street, facing a drug store. If you fail, then what laid in the halls leading here will become reality.

If the door makes no sound, politely enter the room. The room inside is a small study, its walls lined with bookshelves and silent clocks. At the center of the room, there is a large writing desk, piled high with ancient books and yellowed papers. An elderly man sits at the desk, staring at a massive tome whilst silently scribbling notes with a black quill. Do not ask him the question, no matter how much you want to. To do so would disappoint him, and you would not wish for that to happen. Instead, walk towards him until he looks up at you. Stare into his endless blue eyes and think the question that has been burning in your mind for so long: What happens when the silence is broken?

The old man's eyes will narrow as he stares into your soul. Though he does not say a word, the answer to your question becomes all too clear. Should the silence be broken, they will reunite once more, and no words can describe what will come. The old man will then stand and offer you a small gear, perhaps to a music box. Take it. He will then smile warmly and say in a beautiful and serene voice, "Thank you." In an instant, you will find yourself on the street, facing an empty and dusty lot.

The gear is object 31 of 538, but more importantly, you are the new Holder of Silence. The silence must not be broken, and only you know why.

Holder of the Mind

In any town, in any state, in any country, go to a mental institution or rehab clinic. Go up to the front desk and ask to see the holder of the mind. They will hold a look of reluctance on their face, just long enough to see it. Then you will be taken down a hallway, and up a flight of stairs. The stairs will go on for what seems like miles, and if you trip you will be knocked unconscious. You will wake up at your home, if you go back to the institution, it will be an empty lot.

If you make it up the stairs you will find yourself in a hallway on the side of a high-rise building, the windows will go down to the floor. If you look outside them, you will see the city you were born in, but there will be no cars on the street, or people on the sidewalks. You will be taken to a door at the end of the hallway. Open the door and step in. At first there will be only blackness, and then a single spotlight will come on. You will be in an empty circus tent; there will be a man in the center ring. You will not see his eyes; they will be covered in the shadow from his top hat. You must address him as "ringmaster". Ask him to see your innermost mind, the mind you cannot access yourself. Where your deepest secrets, and forgotten memories lay. He will crack his whip. There will be a blinding light. In his place will be you greatest nemesis, and your true love.

You must ask your nemesis for a favor, no matter what you say, they will hand you a knife. You must use this knife to stab out the heart of your true love. Remove their heart and turn around. Behind you will be the ringmaster. Give him the heart, and he will tell you your earliest coherent thought. You will pass out and wake up in the room you were born. You will find the knife lying next to you. It will be stained with the blood of everyone and everything you ever will or have ever killed.

This knife is the object 69 of 583. If they come together you will be held responsible.

Holder of the Ring

In any country, in any city, go into any mental institution, halfway house, or remote motel you can find. Ask at the front desk if you may see "the Holder of the Ring". They will look through some of their movie selections, and hand you a tape or DVD. View this recording any way you can. Do so quickly, and be sure a phone is nearby.
What you will see is a montage, some shots will depict fingers. Some will depict chairs spinning. At the end of the tape, there will appear to be a ring of light in utter darkness. When you are finished watching the recording, the phone will ring. Pick it up. A raspy voice will whisper to you "Seven days". This is how long you will have until the Holder will come to visit you. If you wish to escape your fate, make a copy of the tape and leave it at any mental institution, halfway house, or remote motel. You will then be able to live your life normally.
However, if seven days have passed, and the recording has not been copied, stand three yards from the nearest television screen at exactly 4 minutes and 13 seconds before the time at which you watched the recording. Wait, standing patiently. Soon, the screen will turn on, depicting a well. A girl in a long white shirt will climb out from that well, and walk towards the viewpoint.
She will then reach out and step from the screen. Do not panic. Do not assail her. Do not scream. If you do, when she reaches you, you will not survive her test. Instead, kneel down and reach your arms out welcomingly. This is the Holder of the Ring.
When she reaches you, she will take your head in her hands. She will flood your mind with a million nightmares at once, flashing them in your mind four times each second. Each flash will become worse than the last. Many go into cardiac arrest from fear. It may be the gentler fate.
However, if you survive for one whole minute, you have passed her test. Look her straight in her black eyes and say "Thank you for sharing your dreams with me. Let us bear this burden together."
She will look at you in shock. Then anger. Then, the blackness of her eyes will weep away in ebony tears. The loveliest brown eyes you have ever seen will be crying before you. She will say, "I had thought none would share this pain. Why would you?" Respond solely with "That is the essence of love. Come away and share this journey with me."
At this point she will break down into wailing sobs, throwing herself into your arms. When she seems to have calmed herself, ask her "Why do they send you dreams?" She will break into new sobs, terrified this time. She will tell you of their sadistic nature, of how they tormented her to increase their power. This story will be so sad that you will want to cry until your tears drain your body into dry dust. Do not shed a single tear. She will reach into her shirt and pull out a golden ring on a long gold chain and hand it to you. Take her by the hand and lead her to your home. Do not worry, for she is no longer a Holder, and her dreams and malicious nature are gone from her.
This ring is object 107 out of 538, the Ring of Nightmare Horrors. Those who wear it on their finger will suffer from her nightmares until they are brought together.

is it just me? or does the holder of the ring remind you A LOT of Sadako from the ring.


also, i feel like either the holders thing were based on urban legends or the other way around...
