Several sources coming out of the camps of Oscar De La Hoya and Manny Pacquiao have confirmed that a deal has been reached for the two fighters to collide on December 6 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, with HBO pay-per-view broadcasting the event. The two sides were at a roadblock for weeks after De La Hoya stood his ground on a 70-30 split of the revenue, while Pacquiao demanded 60-40. The fight will take place at a catch-weight of 147-pounds with eight-ounce gloves being used by both fighters. There has been no word on the actual split agreed to by the fighters, but Freddie Roach had advised BoxingScene.com's Ronnie Nathanielsz that he heard of a compromise being reached with a 65-35 split being offered by De La Hoya.
While neither Golden Boy Promotions or Top Rank would officially confirm the deal, Golden Boy issued a press release on Wednesday regarding a major announcement pertaining to De La Hoya on Thursday - which many are indicating will be the selection of Pacquiao as the opponent for what is being billed as the final fight of De La Hoya's career. Pacquiao, the current WBC lightweight champion, will have to move up by two weight-divisions to meet De La Hoya at 147.

It's all over the news, i think it'll be the fight of the year.

An official statement has been issued by WBC lightweight champion Manny Pacquiao and was read to BoxingScene.com/InsideSports.ph by Pacquiao's attorney Franklin Gacal, with respect to Pacquiao's agreement to face Oscar De La Hoya on HBO pay-per-view on December 6 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Pacquiao confirms his agreement to face De La Hoya in December and makes it clear that he will not be an easy opponent for De La Hoya.
“I have agreed in principle to accept the December 6 fight against Oscar De La Hoya. This will be the toughest test in my boxing career because of the reach and height advantage of my esteemed opponent, aside from his great boxing skills."
"This fight however will not be a walk-in-the-park for Oscar De a Hoya. Boxing fans will see the same fire and intensity which they have witnessed in my previous fights. I will frustrate the desire of Oscar De La Hoya to avenge the defeats of the great Mexican boxers who lost to me," Pacquiao said. "I am dedicating this forthcoming fight to my countrymen and all the boxing fans all over the world."

It's not surprising to see it reach the front page of digg since they are both considered to be very popular fighters in the world of boxing.
both of them have been voted as ring magazine's 'fighter of the year' De La Hoya (1995) and Paquiao (2006).

De La Hoya has skill, experience and size advantage. but is already declining from old age.
while Paquiao has speed, power and youth. but has to move up 2 weight divisions.

While some members of the media are wringing their hands in anguish over the upcoming Oscar De La Hoya-Manny Pacquiao superfight, I am rubbing mine together in gleeful anticipation.
The dissenters argue that it is a physical mismatch and that Oscar is taking the easy way out by picking on a little guy.
They have the “little guy” part right, but I’m not so sure how “easy” it’s going to be.

Pacquiao isn’t exactly going to the guillotine on December 6; he’s going to fight a man who will most likely outweigh him by around 10 pounds when the opening bell rings. Moreover, Pac-Man is at the height of his powers. De La Hoya is not.
You could make the case that it is actually Oscar who is taking the bigger risk. In his most recent bout, De La Hoya suffered a broken facial bone fighting Stevie Forbes, a light puncher whose best years were spent at 130 pounds. Imagine what would have happened if it had been Pacquiao landing those punches.
Pacquiao’s trainer, Freddie Roach, has clearly thought about it, and come to the conclusion that Manny will beat Oscar. And you can’t accuse him of simply looking for a big payday. When negotiations bogged down over money, Roach offered to forgo his fee if Pacquiao were to lose.

Special fighters do special things, and that’s what De La Hoya-Pacquiao is all about, two of the most popular and accomplished boxers of our generation getting it on in a fight that presents unique challenges for both of them.
What’s not to like?
